And the greatest character on the show had to be the villianous Megatron. As cunning as he was powerful, he matched and surpassed his Generation 1 namesake in all fields. Not bad for a lone rebel leading an 'army' of less than ten, half of which died, defected or went insane.
His toy was pretty cool, although tragically coloured green and purple. Filled with gimmicks and articulation, there was only one problem with it. On the show, Megatron held his dinosaur tail as a weapon in his hand. On the toy, the tail was a snapping lever-operated pincer that emcompassed the entire left arm. I set out to give a spare Megatron toy a proper hand, and bring the paint job closer to the show. This is the result.
Powerful!
Stylish!
It pops off to make it easier to lose, like many Beast Wars accessories. The tail pincer can screw back on, and the gimmick still works perfectly. I'm just not going to do it right now, since those parts are all little and spring-loaded.
The hand was donated by a knockoff He-Man figure that I affectionately call 'Super Jesus.' Don't worry, he'll be fine once I put a borg arm on there.
I took a few liberties with the show design. Since they modeled a completely new arm, I just tried to mimic the general aesthetic of it, highlighting the existing mould features with silver. I decided to paint the rims around the chest vents, as well as leave the creases black to make them more vent-like. Also, the top of the helmet is a deep shade of indigo on the show, and the crest and thighs are highlighted with army green, two colours I just don't have. In fact, I did all the 'painting' with a bottle of chrome silver nail polish and a sharpie. Out-of-pocket cost: $0! Go me!
Obligatory comparison shot. "Hey, you've got some dude's name scribbled on your chest."
