Ear Candling

A Relaxing and Unique Experience!

Ear Candling/Coning

The practice of using ear candles is an ancient art form used in many
countries such as China, Czechoslovakia, Mexico and Italy.

When ear candling is done, the small end of the candle is put in the
ear, while the other end is lit.  As the candle burns, the smoke travels
into the ear canal, warming the ear wax and creating a gentle vacuum.
This helps to dislodge the wax and pull it into the candle.

Many report this service to be a pleasant sensation, often noting an
improvement in hearing after the ears have been candled.

Ear Facts

The ear canal is shaped somewhat like an hourglass-narrowing part way down. The skin of the outer part of the canal has special glands, the ceruminous and sebaceous, that produce earwax. This wax is supposed to trap dust and sand particles to keep them from reaching the eardrum. Usually the wax accumulates a bit, and then dries up and comes tumbling out of the ear, carrying sand and dust with it. Or it may slowly migrate to the outside where it is wiped off. Wax is not formed in the deep part of the ear canal near the eardrum, but only in the outer part of the canal.
Earwax is healthy in normal amounts and serves to coat the skin of the ear canal where it acts as a temporary water repellent. The absence of earwax may result in dry, itchy ears. Most of the time the ear canals are self cleaning. That is, there is a slow and orderly migration of ear canal skin from the ear drum to the ear opening. Old earwax is constantly being transported from the ear canal to the ear opening where it usually dries, flakes, and falls out.

1. What is Ear Candling?
Ear Candling is a natural way to clean out accumulated wax and white, flaky fungus from the ears. The accumulations withdrawn from your ears may be many months or even years old. Ear Candles are custom designed from natural fibers and tapered to precise specifications.

 2. Does Ear Candling hurt?
Absolutely not! It is a painless, harmless and totally relaxing experience. If it weren't for the intermittent crackling and hissing sounds -- due to the burning of the wax and fungus being drawn up the chimney of the candle -- you would never know that anything was happening in your ear.

 3. How long does an Ear Candling session last?
About forty-five (45) minutes per session, however, you should allow one (1) hour for your appointment.

 4. How often should I have Ear Candling done?
Initially, most people need just 2 or 3 candling sessions to get their ears clean... However, some people, may need up to eight (8) sessions over a six month period. Once your ears are clean, personal preference should determine how often you have your ears candled. Every three to six months would be practical.

 5. Who can benefit from Ear Candling?
Ear candling can benefit almost everyone, from infants to adults. Musicians can benefit - especially singers and horn blowers - who often have a lot more wax build up than other people. People who wear hearing aids can benefit. Also, those people who have had previous ear injuries, can benefit from ear candling as they tend to have a greater build up of wax and fungus.

 6. Who should not have Ear Candling?
Ear Candling should not be done to people who have ear tubes, perforated ear drums, or artificial ear drums.
