PGN for CRIBBAGE

Portable Game Notation for a Game of Cribbage

The proposal is straight forward.   Associate player A with 'UPPER CASE' suit identifiers and the opponent with 'lower case'.

Suits 'S H D C' identify player A's cards and 's h d c' player B's.

Ranks would be 'A - 9, T, J, Q, K' for Player A or both, or optionally 'a - 9, t, j, q, k' for Player B.

The starter is shown first.   Record pegging plays in the sequence in which they occured.   The discards into the crib follow.

Record Muggins Points (underpegging) as '<p', where 'p' is the number of points missed.

Record 'Penalty Points' (overpegging) as '>p' where 'p' is the number of penalty points awarded.

Record overpegged points not noticed by the opponent as '#p', where 'p' is the number of over points.

ACC Rule violations are shown on the record as 'vp', where 'v' (violator) is 'R' (player A) or 'r' (player B) and 'p' the number of points assessed.

The following could be pre-printed.

Player A: ____________________________________________________ (UPPER CASE)

Player B: ____________________________________________________ (lower case)

An example deal where muggins is in play:

DEAL 5: Js<0 6H Td 6C 5s 4C>1 Qh 3H Kd Ad 2c AD 7H <2 r2
It is Player B's (lower case) deal but did not claim 2 points for the J starter.   Muggins does not apply to starter, and in this example dealer does not advance 2 points.   Player A claimed 6 points on the play of the 4C and is penalized 1 point.   If B had not noticed A's overpeg, then 4C#1 should have been recorded.   Player B was mugged by not claiming 2 points in the crib.   Player A is awarded 2 points for a rule violation by player B.

If muggins were not in play, Player A is not awarded B's 2 point error which nevertheless should still be recorded.

HALSCRIB v9 will be able to import a PGN-saved game played between two players for movie viewing and save a game as a printable text file for human review and analysis.
