This month we continue our investigation into the lead of a 5.
HAL is at hole 83 and has skunk possibilities over the dealer at hole 55.
HAL kept:
and discarded
and led 5S after the starter
.
Having a 5 myself, seeing only a single 10-card anywhere, and knowing HAL was playing offense to improve his chances of a skunk win, I paired his 5, thinking that it was the "common" 5 lead holding three 10-cards.
After the game, analyzing this hand via CARDS-QUERY revealed that 3 5 5 7, not the double-run, is best for getting a skunk win. Both the OPTIMAL and OFFENSE lead is a 5. Only when playing DEFENSE should the 3 be led.
You can replay this game in its entirety by entering MODE-CUSTOM setting scores at 0* 0 (HAL is first dealer), and initial seed numbers 6038.20886.4783
The SEED numbers for this hand six deals later were 25432.28634.25170.
