WHITTLE QUITS RACE FOR MAYOR

Hamilton Spectator
Mark Alan Whittle has withdrawn from the race for mayor of the Hamilton megacity but has registered to run for council in ward 7.
The community activist says residents of the ward have encouraged him to run in the ward, where has twice run unsuccessfully. "They'd rather I have some experience as an alderman under my belt before trying for something bigger," he said.
Whittle believes he has a better chance of winning a council seat than pulling off an upset in the mayoral race.
Ward 7 is represented now by aldermen Terry Anderson and Bill Kelly. Only one councilor will represent the area in the new city.
