BANNING TEACHERS STRIKES

TORONTO SUN - Letter of the day
I HAVE a less able boy with cerebral palsy in a regular grade one public school class.
Whenever his elementary teacher or educational assistant decides they want more money than the government supplies, they walk off the job, leaving my son to fend for himself.
Why are my son and the other special education children the first to suffer the detrimental effects of a strike or work-to-rule campaign?
Is it because they have physical disabilities?
Meanwhile, my wife and I, who work full time to keep our heads above water, are left scrambling to meet my son's educational needs by paying the private sector to do so.
Who will reimburse these costs? The militant unions who caused this to happen?
I have always considered educating my son an essential service and banning strikes, work-to-rule and any other labour disruptions is a godsend to burned out parents like my wife and I, who just want our son to get an education.
I applaud the Ernie Eves government for proposing an end to the militant behavior of educators and their unions.

(But union bosses say they have kids' needs at heart)
