Mr. Mark-Alan Whittle Founder and Chief Executive Officer Logan's Pony Club
Dear Mr. Whittle: The Honourable Dr. Marie Bountrogianni, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, has forwarded to me a copy of your letter of February 19, 2004, regarding your concerns about the improper use of designated parking spaces for wheelchair users and Disabled Person Parking Permits in Hamilton. I am sorry to learn of the unfortunate circumstances involving your son, and I have taken note of your views about the need for increased penalties and municipal enforcement of local by-laws related to designated parking. The Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing will explore every available opportunity to work with the Accessibility Directorate of the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration and the Ministry of Transportation to enhance awareness among municipalities and others about the improper use of designated parking spaces. I note as well that you have made your concerns known to my colleague, the Honourable Harinder Takhar, Minister of Transportation, and I trust that he will give this matter his full consideration. I appreciate receiving your letter and thank you for bringing this matter to the government's attention. Sincerely, John Gerretsen Minister
