August

The lazy, hazy days of summer. Filled with all the wonderful activities you can only dream about in the wintertime: picnics, walks in the woods, barbecues, or just reading in the lawn chair beside a cool inviting lake.

And camping! Summer wouldn't be summer without the annual struggle to put up the tent and keep the kids out of the poison ivy! The sound of my friends' laughing voices around the campfire is one of my favourite signs of summertime.

Free-Loaders The catering company's finally here! Now comes the event that I wait for all year. They set up the tables. They unload the cars. I drool at the dozens of boxes and jars. A mountain of food appears before my eyes, Delectable sandwiches, cookies and pies. When night comes, they'll curl up snug in their tents, And I'll open the coolers like birthday presents! Upset the boxes. Rip open the bags. Tear the walls of the dining tent up into rags. Eat 'til my belly's as round as a drum. Campground raccoons sure know how to have fun!
