Adult Book:
Destiny's Road -By Larry Niven 1997Larry Niven is a great story-teller. The science fiction worlds he creates are always full of interesting characters and intriguing events. In "Destiny's Road" he has developed a complex and believable society descended from a group of Earth colonists stranded on a hostile planet.
The inhabitants of the planet Destiny live in isolated settlements strung out along a central road. The settlers are dependant upon the caravans of merchants who travel between the villages and distribute a drug called 'speckles' . This drug enables the colonists to survive in Destiny's toxic environment. A limited supply of speckles is available, and except for the merchants, there is no interaction between the communities.
The novel follows the journey of Jemmy Bloocher, a young farm boy who becomes a fugitive from his home town, and sets off along Destiny's Road. Along with Jemmy you will explore the planet and learn the secrets of life on Destiny. This is an adventure story with a twist.
Children's Book:
The Never-ending Story -By Michael Ende -Translated from the German by Ralph Manheim 1979I believe we should stuff our children's heads with as much magic and enchantment as possible. Then, when they are adults, hopefully they will still be capable of dreaming wonderful dreams.
The Never-ending Story is a magical novel. Shy, awkward Bastian Bux finds a strange old book. As he reads it, he is astonished to find himself becoming a character in the story. Eventually he travels to the land of Fantastica, where his every wish becomes reality and he sets out on an incredible journey. Amazing creatures appear in every chapter. If you've only seen the movie, then you've only heard half of the story!
