June Links

Each month, the Rose Garden will recommend four world wide web links.
These links are categorised as follows:

Link of the Month: Fraises

An elegant salute to the strawberry. The site features recipes, pictures, sound clips, quotes and links to strawberry festival sites, strawberry farms and strawberry books.

Hamilton,Ontario Link: Ontario Workers' Arts and Heritage Centre

The Ontario Workers' Centre celebrates the arts and culture of working people in Ontario. It is located in the historic Custom House in downtown Hamilton. This web site describes existing and past exhibits and events at the facility. Permanent exhibits at the Centre include a history of Hamilton Harbour, a chronology of the Custom House and a look at the Depression in Hamilton. On-line issues of the Centre's newsletter "Worklines" are also available.

Children's Link: Street Cents

This website is based on CBC television's consumer-affairs show for teenagers and it is as useful, smart and funny as the program. Complete archives of the show's five seasons are categorised: music, advertising, food, fashion, etc. Products ranging from caffeine pills to tear-away pants are tested and discussed in an intelligent and entertaining manner.

World Issue Link: Impacts of Garden Pesticides

Pesticides pose major problems for human health and the environment. This site, run by the Sierra Club of Canada, highlights the serious health and environmental risks of insecticides, fungicides and herbicides. The health impacts for our children are especially severe. The site also sells anti-pesticide stickers & buttons and nifty signs which read:
"No Pesticides: I love the environment and my family more than my lawn."
