March

March can be a depressing month. We are getting a little tired of scraping the car windows every morning, the heavy layers of winter clothing and the puddles of dirty water that form under our discarded boots in the hallway. Our mood seems as grey as the city snowbanks and we daydream about moving to the Caribbean.

But look at the brighter side of March. At least we now eat breakfast and supper in the daylight. Or we can take a trip to the sugar bush and drink a paper cup of hot maple syrup. So open those curtains and let the light in! Spring is closer than you think.

Northern Love Song

My Canadian sweetheart, There's no one so fair. Your lips dry and cracked From the cold winter air. Your face pale and wan From four months without sun. As I gaze at your beauty, Your nose starts to run. When you pull off your toque, Lank hair clings to your face. Since you shovelled the driveway, Your back's in a brace. Oh weather-beaten love, What a winter we've had... Such a shame, cabin fever Has driven us mad.
