If I'd never felt the glory 
Of a really gripping story
In the pages of a book....

Never felt my blood rush.
Never had my cheeks flush.
Never got the goosebumps
Or misty eyes and throat lumps.

Never been to fairyland
Or joined a jolly pirate band.
Never travelled anywhere
While nestled in my comfy chair.

Never learned we all are brothers
Witnessing the thoughts of others.
Or left my pain and care behind
To seek adventure in my mind.

I would be really sorry
If I'd never felt the glory 
Of a lovely human story
In the pages of a book.
