The Fountain
Far away in fairyland there was
a delicate palace made of crystal and diamonds. As the wind passed
between the glass turrets and the crystal banners, the castle's
rooms were filled with haunting music. When the sun struck the
palace, sparkling rainbows chased each other across the roof.
The palace garden was overflowing with sweet-scented white flowers.
White roses, cherry blossom and lily of the valley bloomed all
year round.

In the centre of the palace garden
was a small fountain of white marble. The fountain was filled
with clear, cool water that bubbled and laughed through the driest
summers. The fountain was under an enchantment. Whoever drank
from its waters would.....
(Connie adds....)
...be transformed
into a garden nymph for a week! This was most desirable as we
all know that Garden Nymph's have lots of fun and get to frolic
in the flowers all day! If you listen really closely you can hear
them singing, dancing, and playing in the palace garden. However,
you can't see them, they are much too quick!
One day a sad
little girl named Arielle wandered into the palace garden. Immediately
the small marble fountain caught her attention, she strolled over
and gazed at her lonely reflection in the iridescent water.
"I'm so
sad, there is no one here for me to play with!" said Arielle.
A spirited and
courageous little Nymph named Twinkle, just happened to overhear
the sad words of the little girl. Twinkle was feeling extra brave
on this day so she hopped up onto the ledge of the
fountain and........
(Susan adds...)
...smiled cheerfully at the startled little
girl. "Hello sweet one, don't be afraid."
Arielle swallowed
hard. She knew this was magic and magic could be dangerous. Hadn't
her mother always warned her about magical beings and
the tricks they played? But the truth was, Arielle was lonely
and the little nymph looked kind. She took a deep breath. "Hello.
I'm Arielle."
"And I'm
Twinkle." The little nymph flew closer to the child. Her
eyes wide and her mouth in the shape of an O, Arielle watched
the beautiful green and tinted gold wings as they opened and closed.
"How beautiful!"
she cried. "How I wish I had a pair of wings."
"Do you?"
Replied Twinkle with a merry laugh,

(Monica adds...)
"Well, I
could let you borrow mine, but you must return them at exactly
the same hour tomorrow. If you do not I will lose my wings forever
and you will lose all your most cherished memories."
Arielle was overjoyed.
She couldn't wait for the wings to be hers if only for a day.
"Oh, can
I have them now?"
"First you
must recite the spell, turn around three times, close your eyes
and they will be yours. But just remember what I have told you."
"What
is the spell? Please tell me."
"If mine
heart be pure, and spirit right
I shall wear these wings tonight."
Arielle quickly
did as she was told. No sooner had she finished than she felt
the weight of Twinkle's glorious wings on her back.
"Do not
forget..." was all he heard from far below, as she flew up
into the sky.....
